How to Make Rick Rack Rosettes
Rick Rack Rosettes

A friend gave me this flower ring and necklace, when she handed them to me I thought they were porcelain–there’s a very vintage feel to them. From a distance you really can’t tell that they’re made out of rick rack! Yes, rick rack!

How to Make Carambola Flowers

These absolutely beautiful origami flowers were designed by Carmen Sprung and I just love them! Each flower is made from a single sheet of paper, not from a square though, but from a pentagon. I would recommend using fairly thick and strong paper (80-90 gsm) to fold them – Tant origami paper will be just the right choice!

Peony Coffee Filter Flowers Tutorial

Ok here is a little tutorial on how I created these beauties... I took photos from my phone as I went along!

First you will need 10 dyed coffee filters.I dyed these with fabric dye that I got at Michaels. I created many different shades of pink by mixing the dye with water to create lighter/saturated colors. You could also use koolaid, teas, coffee, easter egg kits, food coloring. Just play with the colors to get them right!

I like to use 3 different shades of the same color for each flower with the two darkest on the top and then mix the other shades as you layer.

Valentine Pom Pom Flowers

Valentine’s is a fun day to treat those special people in your life with love notes and secret surprises. I also personally LOVE the colors associated with Valentine’s Day. Red’s, pinks, and peaches are so happy and really brighten up my mood on these gray winter days. I decided this year to create some simple pom pom flowers using my favorite Valentine color combo – red and peach. It’s an easy project that you can finish with just some basic yarn, a glue gun, scissors and some twigs from your yard.

Zipper Rose for Headband Tutorial

Zipper Rose for Headband Tutorial
Zipper Rose for Headband

I love making hair accessories. Not sure why. I don't really love wearing them but I sure love making them and giving them to my sisters or friends. I have seen zipper flowers popping up here and there and for Christmas I decided to make one for my sister. It was easier than I thought it would be so I wanted to share how to make them.

What you need:
metal zipper (or thick toothed zipper) at least 7 inches long
glue gun
felt scraps
headband

First, take your zipper and separate the sides/tapes by removing the bottom stopper. I tried using pliers but ended up just pulling it apart. Just make sure to not rip anything.

How to Make a Flower out of Duct Tape

How to Make a Flower out of Duct Tape
Flower out of Duct Tape

Duct Tape has become very popular in making things. I've seen wallets, purses, clothes, costumes, flowers, book covers, pen and pencil wraps, and even coasters for your glass. It's amazing how many new things you see every day from the imagination of people all around the world.

I recently started making Duct Tape roses and have loved how they have turned out. Some are full roses while others are less petals but still pretty.
The roses look complicated to make but it's really not that hard. The longest part (and hardest part) is tearing the Duct Tape and folding it to get it ready to roll into the flower.

Valentines Day Flower

For those that have been with me since the beginning, you will remember my background is in making fashion flower accessories for women and little girls. It’s what I used to do before transitioning over to blogging. I loved it, but blogging was a better fit for me. I still love playing in the craft room though. My layered fashion flowers were known for their unique style. Valentine’s Day was always when I loved crafting these. But the great thing is that these layered flowers are great for more than just hair accessories. They are perfect for embellishments for other crafts! Crafts like a DIY Valentine’s wreath! So I thought I’d share a simple DIY flower tutorial to help you have a unique centerpiece this Valentine’s season.

How To Make Shabby Chic Flower Arrangement

I am in love with Ball Canning's Blue Mason Jars and the Shabby Chic Decor that is all over Pinterest. While running errands at one of my favorite stores, Target,  I found some blue Ball canning jars. Thinking of a way to incorporate them into my new decor, I came up with a super simple, yet cute idea.

Recycled Aluminum cans To Flower

Recycled Aluminum cans To Flower

I got the idea for these, from paper flowers I used to make, from a book called "Bloemen van papier" by Hans van Eck. I though he came up with the most beautiful paper roses. Only problem was, when I tried to adapt the pattern exactly, I couldn't get the aluminum to bend properly. And I didn't want to use epoxy to attach everything, but soldering failed miserably (aluminum is really hard to solder, according to the web... I should have listened). I tried wiring things together, needless to say, non of it worked... Until , I got a little smarter, and modified the pattern. (you can find a pdf of my pattern at the bottom of the page).

I learned to make paper flowers a long time ago with directions from a library book. They don't require any adhesive, and there are just four shapes to cut out.:

If you love wrapping packages as much as I do, you might enjoy making this mega-fringed flower. It’s reminiscent of a Gerbera daisy and is an attention-catching substitute for the usual bow. Based on the same technique as a much smaller quilled fringed flower, the cuts are made with detail scissors. Instead of regular paper or lightweight cardstock, I used a new product called TerraSkin (essentially, pressed mineral powder), but paper or cardstock would be fine too.

I recently found some heavy weight crepe paper at a local discount store and so I couldn't resist making some large crepe paper flowers for a community gathering. Grouped together in a simple metal pitcher, they looked great, and while not exactly quick to whip up, they are certainly festive and can be enjoyed for quite some time!

It’s not like I had the time, really, for another ornament tutorial. But somehow I got all fixated on the idea of chenille stems, and this happened.

Actually, it’s a really quick and easy little ornament (not counting glue-dry time). You could use these on your tree, or as garland, or gift tie-ons. You could make a whole mess of them at once, and it’s a nice craft for older children, family groups, or holiday craft nights.
